Campaign Against Living Miserably are a suicide prevention charity on a mission to help people end their misery, not their lives.

To coincide with their Missed Birthdays campaign, which was launched to raise awareness of the reality of youth suicide in the UK, they introduced The CALM C.A.R.E Kit, which is a practical advice guide to help empower Adults to speak to young people about suicide, with resources and information they can use in cases of prevention, intervention or potential crisis.

I was briefed to create visuals for the C.A.R.E kit which would reflect the serious nature of the content, communicating the steps to take when facilitating conversations about suicide between a trusted adult and young person.

I created a collection of DIY paper cutout syle collages which would convey an empathetic and accessible look and feel, guiding users through each section of the kit, empowering them to start having those difficult conversations that could have
life-saving results.

For CALM’s regular How To feature, I was asked to create a collection of editorial illustrations under the theme of work burnout and stress. I experimented with a quick comedic tattoo flash style, imagining extreme examples of what can cause stress in a work environment and what burnout could look like.

I was briefed to create visual assets for 13 statistics about suicide in the UK. The team wanted the assets to help get the message across in a more engaging and memorable way while being adaptable and shareable.

The stats are shocking so I decided to present them as cutout print style newspaper headlines, pulling out numbers and breaking down into infographics where possible. I took inspiration from journal art and collage artists to create DIY cut & paste style collages  which would be striking but moving without looking depressing.
